First Nation chief declares opposition to nuclear waste storage

Lac Seul First Nation is making it clear they do not want nuclear waste moving through their traditional territory.

This could cause problems for some area towns, like Ignace, that are exploring the idea of becoming a host repository. Chief Clifford Bull says despite what other communities might want, they aren't budging.

“Our actual stance on the nuclear waste storage is that of definite opposition,” Bull told CKPR Radio during a Wednesday interview. “We are adamant that we do not want to see this particular storage facility in our traditional territory.”

He added that the opposition to the storage facility has to do with the “risk factors, the unknown” and wanting to “protect future generations.”
