First Nations Centre Launches Special Health Toolkits

Ottawa, ON (May 16, 2011) – The First Nations Centre (FNC) of the National Aboriginal Health Organization (NAHO) has launched four toolkits of information relating to specific health issues. The four toolkits are: Making Your Home Safe for Your Baby; Understanding Immunization; Cancer Awareness; and Sexual Health. These toolkits are dedicated to increasing awareness about these issues and improving the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual health of First Nations.

The toolkits are available on NAHO’s website:

“NAHO strives to provide high-quality, culturally relevant information to help First Nations, Inuit and Metis individuals, families and communities in Canada,” said Dr. Paulette Tremblay, CEO of NAHO. “The work of NAHO aims to inform policy makers, Indigenous and non-Indigenous researchers, health care providers, students, media, non-governmental organizations, and international organizations.”

The First Nations Centre provides evidence-based research on issues affecting First Nations peoples across Canada. The diversity of the subject matter of these four toolkits reflects how health issues in First Nations communities are spread throughout the population. Our goal is for these toolkits to be used by individuals and health care providers to lessen health risks in these specific areas.

The National Aboriginal Health Organization advances and promotes the health and well-being of First Nations, Inuit and Métis through collaborative research, Indigenous traditional knowledge, building capacity, and community-led initiatives.
