KIHS students in Sachigo Lake First Nation working together to protect the environment

Sachigo Lake First Nation Students and their collected computer waste being readied for shipping for proper disposal ...

Eli Pivnick, the Sachigo Lake KIHS teacher reports ...

We did get the material out of here for recycling (see picture). The canoe (full of old house wiring) was an old broken down thing that I sent down for aluminum recycling. The carboard boxes were mostly computer equipment from the old Community Access Project and a lot from the Elementary including the white towers.

It was a bitterly cold day when we sent all this stuff off ... that seems a long time ago now.

The Sachigo Lake students took advantage of the recycling program for electronics and computers set up by the Ontario government and operating out of the Sioux Lookout Hidden Lake Landfill site.

Their old computers and peripherals were sent to the landfill site on an empty transport that had delivered supplies to the  community over this year's winter road.
