McGuinty Government Helps Improve Community Infrastructure And Support Families

The construction of a new centre in Sandy Lake First Nation will help give families easier access to prenatal and early childhood care and services and create five new permanent jobs.

With assistance from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), Sandy Lake First Nation will build an early childhood development centre which will house a wide range of early childhood, prenatal, infant health promotion and prenatal nutrition programs currently dispersed throughout the community.

The program is part of the government's Open Ontario Plan to help strengthen Northern and Aboriginal communities, create jobs and support economic development.

"Our investment will help deliver new and improved services that will prepare children for future academic success, potentially resulting in better livelihood opportunities and a better quality of life."
– Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development, Mines and Forestry, and chair of the NOHFC
