COMMUNITY YOUTH JUSTICE WORKER
1 Full-Time Position – Sioux Lookout
Nishnawbe-Aski Legal Services Corporation (NALSC) is a unique legal services office that provides legal, paralegal and law-related services to the members of Nishnawbe-Aski Nation (NAN). The Restorative Justice Program provides an alternative to the mainstream justice system which incorporates traditional Aboriginal cultural components. NALSC is seeking a Community Youth Justice Worker to service the communities of: Kingfisher Lake, Wunnumin Lake, Kasabonika, Wapekeka and Wawakapewin First Nations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Determine level of community’s progress in Community Accountability Conferencing (CAC) to determine needs and wishes of community.
To set-up and train local justice committees in each of the communities served on all aspects of Restorative Justice.
 Educate, train all front-line workers in communities in CAC and actively seek their involvement in circle facilitations and meetings of the local justice committee.
Liaise with court, probation officers and local justice committees to arrange for referrals to program.
Conduct CAC Circles as required.
Provide resources for Community Justice Circles and back-up those who wish to conduct their own CAC Circles.
Submit monthly database and quantitative evaluation reports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education in areas of law, advocacy, paralegal, social work, mental health or related area of study or work experience;
Some experience and knowledge of Aboriginal issues and the current legal system.Â
High degree of professionalism & discretion
Ability to work under little supervision
Computer proficiency required
Excellent writing skills, ability to meet deadlines and generate reports;
Public speaking - excellent communication skills.
Assertive, organized, punctual and motivated
Location:Â 1 Position to be based in Sioux Lookout
Salary:Â $35,000 to $40,000 per annum based upon experience.This is a full time non managerial position.Â
