2010 Casey Noon Memorial Relay Run completed from Pelican Falls to Red Lake

The Red Lake Native Youth Running Club finished a memorial relay run in memory of the late, Red Lake Native Youth Running Club member, Casey Noon who passed away November 29, 1990. This Run began at the former Pelican Lake Indian Residential School site, November 27 and ended at the Red Lake Indian Friendship Center, November 30.

The Red Lake Native Youth Running Club was started in 1987 at the Red Lake Indian Friendship Center in Red Lake Ontario to provide recreation for Red Lake native youth. The Club competed in various running events in the Manitoba Marathon like the 2.6 Super Run, the marathon relay, the half-marathon and the full 26.2 mile marathon. The Club won a bronze in the marathon relay run thier first time competing in a major event. Also competed in various high school running events and particpated in the 1991 Sacred Run across Canada.

This Run is to remember, honor, and deliver a message through traditional running in the memory of Casey Noon and all other youth who we have lost through residential school, alcohol, and drugs. To raise awareness and prevent these unfortunate incidents from happening to our young people. To put closure on the whole residential school issue and to move on with our lives for the benefit of future generations of our First Nations youth to come.
